Livingdocs Release March 2026: Media Center

Sarah Robins

Every other month, we at Livingdocs release an updated version of our product wherein we expand its functionality with new features, capabilities and improvements. Now, our March 2026 Release is live and ready for users to explore.

Media Center: Usage Log

Licensing obligations don't end when an image is published on the web. Images are regularly taken out of Livingdocs for use in print, social media or other external channels — and documenting those usages is essential for staying compliant with licensing terms.

The Usage Log makes it possible to track how images are used outside of Livingdocs. When downloading an image, users are prompted to define the purpose and a log entry is created automatically; this ensures that every time an image leaves the system, there is a record of it. Users can later return to confirm the usage and add further details like the publication date or additional context.

All log entries are visible directly in the Asset Detail View, giving teams a clear and auditable history of how each image has been used.

Media Center: Image Rotation

We've added a rotation tool to the image editor, making it easy to straighten a horizon or correct a slightly tilted shot without leaving Livingdocs. What sounds simple comes with an important behavioral change worth understanding.

Image edits — including rotation and filters — are now applied per usage. This means that adjustments made in one article will not affect the image anywhere else it appears. Each usage gets its own independent edit, giving editors full flexibility to adapt an image to a specific story or format without unintended side effects.

Pixelation remains an exception. It is always applied to the original image and affects all usages globally, ensuring that faces or sensitive content are never accidentally left unredacted, regardless of where the image is used.

Media Center: Dashboard Improvements

Browsing images looks different depending on the task at hand. Sometimes you need to scan a rapid stream of incoming agency photos; other times you're carefully comparing a handful of candidates. The dashboard should adapt to that, not the other way around.

The Media Library Dashboard now lets users adjust thumbnail sizes to match their current task. Whether you need a dense overview or a closer look, you can switch between sizes in steps to get the right level of detail. Images also load automatically while scrolling, so there is no need to interrupt your flow with a manual button click, making it noticeably faster to work through large sets of results.

On the Horizon: Image Collections

With tens of thousands of images arriving in a newsroom every day, finding and organising the best ones has always been a challenge. Photo editors play a crucial role in curating visuals that tell stories — but until now, there was no structured way to collect images beyond the scope of a single article. Collaboration between roles was limited, and coverage of large or long-running topics had no dedicated home.

Exciting news: Image collections have been developed and will soon be available.

Image Collections will give teams a dedicated space to curate and share images across stories and departments. We would recommend creating collections per team or department, using groups within each collection to organise images by topic or event. This will keep the number of collections manageable while still allowing a flexible and easy-to-maintain structure within each one.

Please note that this feature will be offered at an extra cost as part of a bigger bundle of functionalities.

As we refine the final details, please feel free to reach out to our Head of Business Céline Tykve for more information.

Breaking Changes & Upcoming Deprecations

In order to keep Livingdocs as streamlined and user-friendly as possible, we periodically remove features when we have found better solutions to the problems they solve. We will always give you ample notice so that you have plenty of time to make adaptations to your setup.

In the March Release, there are some technical breaking changes you need to be aware of as a technician working with Livingdocs. No user-facing features are affected. Please read the Technical Release Notes for a comprehensive list of changes that may affect your newsroom.

We look forward to showing you what’s in store for our next release!
