Online Living Talk #1
Taxonomy Management Will Never Be the Same
Most news organisations have realised that keeping a list/database/taxonomy of all the interesting entities they write about, takes a lot of work. Some have built up extensive databases over the years or are using external sources such as Wikidata, but new entities just keep popping up and old ones need to be maintained on top of that. This is perhaps the most challenging aspect of taxonomy management. What if you could significantly simplify this process?
In this Living Talk we talked about how this is possible using a combination of NLP techniques such as Information Extraction, Named Entity Recognition and Entity Disambiguation. We also told you about auto-tagging AI-startup iMatrics' on-going project, called ConceptCore 2.0. Which includes this as one of the highest anticipated features.
Speaker of this event was Christoffer Krona, Co-Founder and CTO of iMatrics. -
The jambit Media Conference
Solutions for the Digital Future of the Media
At the virtual jambit media conference, everything revolved around the digital future of media companies. How can media use data and AI for themselves? Which formats should you use in the future and how can these be monetised? And which publishing strategies are proving to be promising? We found out from industry giants such as Süddeutsche Zeitung, F.A.Z., Spiegel, Madsack, ProSiebenSat.1 and FC Bayern, how they shape the digital future of the media!
Livingdocs was also present at this conference with Gabriel Hase as VoD speaker and shared insights on the topic of publishing strategies. -

Chatbots – How to build an Action for Google Home
«Ok Google, what about the Living Talk #3?»
Every fourth adult in the USA owns a smart speaker called Google Home, Amazon Echo (aka Alexa), Homepod or similar. People talk to these virtual assistants and tell them to play music, to put on the light or to forecast the weather. But how can you teach these digital devices more specific skills? Are they able to communicate with the tools you are using? May the smart speakers even be interesting for office use?
In this Living Talk we took the challenge to develop our own Google Action. Step by step we extended the skillset of our assistant, figured out how to solve difficulties and learnt more about the possibilities of smart speakers and chatbots. It was not necessary to have programming skills to enjoy this talk.
Speaker of this meetup was Christoph Süess – founder of Paixon, software developer, entrepreneur and chatbot enthusiast. -

Living Talk #2
Green Data Center
Traditional data centers are known for their energy waste. Data Center Light is a project to build real green, sustainable and modern data centers. The economic and geographical conditions of Canton Glarus allowed us to build a one of a kind data center that uses neither grey energy for construction, nor energy for cooling. On top of that all energy it actually uses comes from local, renewable energy sources.
Data Center Light evolved from simple data centers to a blueprint project that can enable countrysides to regain economic power as well as attracting skilled workers.
Speaker of this meetup was Nico Schottelius, CEO of ungleich glarus AG, founder of the co-working space Digital Glarus and the brain behind Data Center Light. -

Deep Learning
Deep Learning has gained a lot of traction lately, in particular due to its huge successes in image recognition. At the core it’s still neural networks, which have existed for over 50 years now. But recent progresses in the models and larger datasets have brought it one step closer to its original goal: Artificial Intelligence.
In this meetup we learned about the fundamentals of deep learning including a basic understanding of AI-driven products, the codes behind it and what it can ACTUALLY do for you (and what it cannot do).
Speaker of this meetup was Gabriel Hase, Co-Founder and CEO of Livingdocs.
