Livingdocs Release May 2025: Image Editing & Exposure Boosting

Sarah Robins

Every other month, we at Livingdocs release an updated version of our product wherein we expand its functionality with new features, capabilities and improvements. Now, our May 2025 Release is live and ready for users to explore.

Media Center: Image Editing

This release expands Media Center capabilities with basic image editing features.

You can now redact number plates and faces directly in Livingdocs when your images contain sensitive information. Additionally, you can adjust brightness, contrast and saturation to achieve your desired look.

All changes applied to an image are stored in a separate image variant. Livingdocs ensures that only this edited version is delivered to your readers, whether for security purposes or visual consistency. The original image is always preserved, allowing you to revert to it at any time.

Page Management: Exposure Boosting

In algorithmic sections on pages, articles are ordered by specific sorting criteria—most commonly the latest publication date. Exposure Boosting lets you influence which articles appear more prominently to your readers in these sections.

You can boost articles through dashboards or in an article's metadata panel. Boosted articles appear ahead of non-boosted ones, which is particularly useful when updates on algorithmic  sections happen frequently and important stories might otherwise get pushed down too quickly.

Unlike pinning articles, boosting respects deduplication rules and expires at a defined point. This capability is offered in three different durations to suit particular curatorial needs in your daily page management routines. The short duration provides a three-hour boost throughout the day. The medium boost lasts a full working day, ideal for maintaining article visibility during business hours, for example. For articles that need extended exposure—especially when content is published early in the morning—you can set a long boost the evening before that lasts 15 hours.

Further improvements in the May 2025 Release include:

  1. Document Inbox for Data Records

Document Inboxes help you manage pages by collecting, sorting and grouping articles. They also allow image editors to propose and prioritise images for specific articles. Now Data Records can also have Inboxes, enabling teams to start image research and collect topic-relevant images before text content exists. This lets different teams or individuals work more flexibly and independently, if desired.

  2. Table Dashboards: Expanded metadata support

We've expanded our set of supported metadata plugins on table dashboards, giving you complete control over which information is displayed and editable. You can find the newly added metadata plugins in our documentation; the full list has been updated as well.

  3. Clipboard context

To make components in the clipboard easier to reuse, we've added context that helps you distinguish between identical components with different content. You've already seen this for paragraphs, for example, and now you'll also see content excerpts for nested components like bullet lists.

  4. Clickable titles in Teaser sidebar

When working with the teaser sidebar on pages, it was cumbersome to navigate to articles for quick checks. Now, teaser titles are clickable and open the corresponding article directly.

  5. Additional oEmbed providers

We added the out-of-the-box support of three commonly used providers to our oEmbed service: Bluesky, Reddit and Pinterest.

  6. Media Center: delete language metadata set

The multi-language metadata feature for media types lets you set metadata for each language individually. This release adds the ability to easily remove language-specific metadata sets.

  7. PEIQ Integration: Article Import

If you're using PEIQ as your external news agency system, you can now drag and drop agency articles directly from PEIQ onto a Livingdocs dashboard to import them as articles in Livingdocs. Any associated images will be imported, as well.

Breaking Changes & Upcoming Deprecations

In order to keep Livingdocs as streamlined and user friendly as possible, we periodically remove features when we have found better solutions to the problems they solve. We will always give you ample notice so that you have plenty of time to make adaptations to your setup.

In the May Release, there are some technical breaking changes you need to be aware of as a technician working with Livingdocs. No user-facing features are affected. Please read the Technical Release Notes for a comprehensive list of changes that may affect your newsroom.

To get more in-depth, technical information about this release, please refer to our documentation site. There, you can also stream the recordings and peruse the slide presentations of our Feature Webinar and Developer Webinar.

We look forward to showing you what’s in store for our next release!
